Meeting in the Council Chamber and Members’ Lounge for the launch evenings, guests were introduced to the scheme and were encouraged to take part in a range of activities hosted by the Road Safety Education Team, Travel Choice and Access Team, School Crossing Patrol Service, Community Speed Watch Team, Safety Camera Team, Police and a Medical First Response Team. Successful completion of this interactive trail gave the children the opportunity to win a bike. The school judged to have contributed most to the scheme throughout the year will win an activities day at Quorn Hall.

Bethany Clifford and Kira Palmer from Hugglescote Community Primary School were JRSOs of the year for 2010/2011. The two girls, now at high school, attended the launch evenings and gave a brief presentation about their experiences as JRSOs and how much they and their classmates enjoyed their school activity day at Quorn Hall, despite their team built raft coming apart whilst halfway across the River Soar.

JRSO OF THE YEAR 2010/11 has been awarded to Bethany Clifford and Kira Palmer from Hugglescote Community Primary School.

Bethany and Kira have worked extremely hard this year. They were chosen for their originality, creativity and business like approach. Just one example of their achievements is the after school charity event they organised to raise money for Brake (the road safety charity). Congratulations to Bethany and Kira who won an activity day at Quorn Hall for their whole class.

Congratulations also go to our runners up who won a family ticket to Snibston Discovery Park. They are:

Measham St Charles Catholic Primary School

Grace Stewart, Anna Hopkins and Charlotte Haigh – Fantastic JRSO newsletter and hedgehog cress potatoes.

Stathern Primary School

Jacob Hughes, Fiona Johnstone and Fleur Ellingworth – Well presented Power Point presentations and popular road safety club.

Thurlaston Church of England Primary School

Carina Barber and Amy Thorne – I particularly liked your eye catching notice boards covering our road safety theme each half term.
